As a part of its ‘Safety for Streets’ initiative, BMW has launched a road safety education website for 7 – 11 years olds, their teachers and parents. The website focuses on different key aspects of road safety with fun activities, stories, puzzles, quizzes and competitions.
In its first series, it focuses on how to get seen on roads and stay safe:
If you are buying new trainers, look out for those with reflective strips on the back or on the sole.
You can find fluorescent and reflective items in most shops selling car and bike accessories.
If you use a wheelchair or a walking aid, make yourself more visible. You could add spoke reflectors to your wheels or stick fluorescent & reflective tape around your walking aid.
To make sure you can be seen day and night, wear clothing in fluorescent colors with reflective strips on.
If you wear a dark school uniform, carry a bag or umbrella in bright colors, so that you can be seen.
If you have to cross the road when it’s dark, choose a place under a street light. This will help drivers to see you more easily.
In winter, make sure any hoods or hats you wear do not make it more difficult for you to look and listen carefully for traffic.
Wear non-slippery shoes when you are out in snow or icy weather.
Fluorescent yellow is the brightest of all florescent colors.
If you are out at night and you do not have anything reflective, wear or carry something white.
