Objectives

At the completion this course, the participant shall be able to:

  • To provide a description of the physiology and kinematics of injury.
  • To provide an understanding of the need for a rapid assessment of the trauma patient.
  • To enhance the participant’s performance in the assessment and treatment of the trauma patient.
  • To provide an overview and establish a management method for the pre-hospital care of the multi-system trauma patient.

Course Description

VTLS Program highlights include:

  • Resuscitation
  • Rapid Assessment , Stabilization and transportation of trauma patients
  • Emphasizing assessment steps and sequencing
  • Treatment interventions and packaging patients for transport

Hands on skills stations include:

  • Patient Assessment and Management
  • Basic and Advance Airway management
  • Fluid Resuscitation
  • Spinal Motion Restriction, Short Board, Helmet Management, Log-Roll, and Long Backboard Utilization
  • Extremity Immobilization and Traction

Mode of Instruction

  • Audio visual aids
  • Case based scenarios
  • Practice on manikins, stretchers and spinal motion restrictions devices
